David Chipperfield

"I’m interested in all of my work in trying to find things which have a certain prototypical characteristic, that have timeless and unquestionable qualities."

Essential attention to details

Attention to detail and the search for the essential are perfectly synthesized in the latest project he has designed for Alessi in consultation with Michelin starred chef Pietro Leemann, Convivio.

His approach to design is evident in the focus on the material, its simplicity and purity enhanced in a refined juxtaposition of textures and surfaces.

“A family of pots and pans conceived for ease of use and healthy cooking, Convivio merges the quality and functional features of professional kitchen tools with thoughtful design, making it particularly suitable for elevating home cooking.”

Vernacular, in complexity

Another key point in Chipperfield’s design approach can be found in Tonale collection, a table service inspired by vernacular ceramics from Korea, Japan, and China, and conceived as an exercise in refining functional household objects. The name "Tonale" refers to Giorgio Morandi's use of colour tonality imbuing his daily objects with a sense of individuality.

Santiago cutlery set is completing the brilliance of the Tonale tableware project. Despite the apparent simplicity, the attention to the continuity of the shapes makes the grip soft and the design startling.
